Steven, I forgot to mention that we also use GISMO to link e-mails to clients. Will GISMO have to be re-installed on the client side?
When talking about the feature for linking documents, are you talking about the "Links" tab and anything that appears there or something else? If that is the case, if we were to keep the same path on the new server to the goldmine folder then there shouldn't be any problems with the linked files? Right now goldmine is using L drive which is mapped to all clients as the goldmine folder.

Do you *just* want to move the database? Or the complete GoldMine installation? Assuming the latter...
In summary:
Just backup your database on your current server and restore it to your new server. Install GoldMine on your new server. Copy the subdirectories under GoldMine from your old server to your new server. This will include critical directories for sync and mailbox attachments, templates, reports, etc.
Edit the gm.ini file in your root GoldMine folder so that the sysdir entry points to the new location.
Have your local users test GoldMine; disable access to your old GoldMine (just to be sure your local users are not seeing it).
Are you also moving the sync engine to the new machine? Assuming that you are, you'll need to configure it in the GoldSync Admin Center. You also would need to reconfigure your router if your remote users come in via the internet on a public IP address.
On each of the 4 remotes you'd want to change the ip address their sync profile is pointing to. If the remotes us a fully qualified host name (as opposed to an ip address) you can simply change your dns routing for that alias, and not have to touch the 4 remotes at all.
Again, this is just a general summary. There's too much variability from one system to the next to nail it down completely. This is because GoldMine provides flexibility, and a lot of different possibilities for configuration.
If you decide to hire this out, you can expect to pay for about half a day's work.
By the way, if users take advantage of GoldMine's feature for linking documents you may have an issue relative to the location of those documents. There are tools for mass changing the links but be sure you've got a good backup before you go down that path!
Good luck,
Steven
