Need to run Goldmine 6.7 from my Windows Vista 64 PC, software is installed on Windows Server 2003 and I'm getting an error after I try to log in, the error:

I know that a few people were able to run it on Vista 32, but is there a way around 64?

Thanks!

I doubt that 64-bit is at all fatal. I just tested 6.7 on my 64-bit machine -- no problem.

Keep in mind that this version of GoldMine requires the SQL client software to be installed on your local computer. Be sure you use the 64-bit version.

Also, this version of GoldMine requires that the BDE settings be correct, pointing to the correct server and database.

Thank you for the response, but can you explain to me where or how do I get the 64-bit SQL client software and as far as BDE, if I have other users running windows xp and goldmine with no problems, do I still have to check the BDE settings?

Thanks again.

SQL Client: You'll need to talk to Microsoft about this. Normally, when you buy GoldMine, you get a copy of "normal" SQL Server, i.e. 32-bit, which includes the "client" component. I'm not sure if the 32-bit client will work on a 64-bit machine. In any case, you can locate your original installation media, install SQL on your computer (just the client connectivity component) and see if a) it installs, b) it works. In some cases GoldMine can be made to work without the sql client software, but according to FrontRange, the client software is required (and, by the way, makes sense).

BDE: The pointer to the BDE is in the registry. Your other units may have their registry pointer for the BDE set correctly. Your BDE registry is probably not set correctly. Go to hklm/software and delete the Borland key. Then try running GoldMine from your network share. Back up your registry if you're not sure of your ability to recover from any inadvertent disaster.

I have SQL server 2000 installed on my Vista 64 computer and also I deleted the Borland key which was in hklm/software/wow6432node and I'm still getting the same error, if you have any other suggestion I'd really appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Problem is I don't have access to the server hosting GM, only my computer.

by: stevengraffPosted on 2008-07-31 at 14:15:59ID: 22133594

That may not be relevant... can you describe "don't have access" a little further? Can you "ping it?" Do you know its name? Are you connected to it through your network? Direct access (i.e. logging on physically to the desktop) to the server should not be needed.

by: caozamPosted on 2008-07-31 at 14:40:24ID: 22133787

Yes I'm connect it to it thru the network, also can connect to it via sql server client, I can query the database using query analyzer from my desktop but I can't log in to it locally or remotely.

Thanks!

No problem, then, it's just (probably) a couple of simple tweaks to your configuration.

by: mtyackPosted on 2008-08-02 at 21:30:14ID: 22146459

I'm pretty sure that GoldMine 6.7 specifically looks for SQL 2000 connectivity components. So if you have say SQL 2005 management tools or SQL Native Client drivers that would allow you to setup ODBC connection and query the database successfully, etc... but that's still not enough for GM 6.7. You can install SQL 2000 connectivity components from a SQL Server 2000 CD, that is if Vista lets you run that install. I have found on Win XP machines where this is a problem simply getting a copy of the file NTWDBLIB.DLL from another machine and putting it into the system32 folder does the trick. I don't know if Vista works the same.

And of course your BDE settings need to be correct but hopefully your GoldMine installation is setup in such a way that all client machines are looking to a shared BDE configuration on the server.

by: caozamPosted on 2008-08-04 at 08:03:30ID: 22153026

mtyack, I do have SQL server 2000 client tools installed in the Vista computer.

Yes all other client computers (XP Pro) are looking at a BDE shared configuration on the server.

Thanks but still can't connect.

by: caozamPosted on 2008-08-05 at 09:40:47ID: 22162663

Stevengraff, what are the tweaks I need to make in my configuration?

by: mtyackPosted on 2008-08-05 at 09:48:11ID: 22162735

caozam,

Have you tried turning off Vista's UAC? I've found a lot of GoldMine problems are caused by UAC.

by: stevengraffPosted on 2008-08-05 at 10:11:54ID: 22162952

It's much more readily fixed "hands on" rather than piecemeal hither and thither.

Here's something else to try:

Start | run | regedit
hklm/software... delete your Borland key.
Run GoldMine again, and GoldMine should a) find the default Borland location under g:\goldmine\setup\bdeshare (or wherever GoldMine's installed) and b) re-setup the BDE settings appropriately in your local registry.

Then, GoldMine should run. If it doesn't, re-check your drive-letter mapping, making sure it's the same as everyone else on the network. Try your GoldMine login on someone else's computer, to prove that your GoldMine acct. isn't the problem.

Good luck.

Tried everything with no success, looks like GM is not meant to run from Vista 64.

Thanks to all.

by: stevengraffPosted on 2008-08-07 at 07:30:01ID: 22181295

You're right in one sense... the version of GoldMine your company is using is not meant to run on Vista 64. More recently, GoldMine Premium Edition is designed for that purpose.

Original intentions of the publisher notwithstanding, my guess is that GoldMine can be made to work on your computer; it's just a matter of whether it's worth the time/effort/expense required to do so.

by: automationstationPosted on 2009-04-03 at 09:21:02ID: 24061643

GoldMine Premium Edition v8.03 (the current version) and the upcoming GoldMine Premium Edition v8.5 are NOT certified or supported to run on a 64-bit Workstation. One of the issues you will find is that you no longer can print from GoldMine.

by: stevengraffPosted on 2009-04-03 at 09:33:07ID: 24061790

automationstation is right; however, we've been running GoldMine PE 8.02 in our office on a 64-bit platform for over a year.

I have this version of Goldmine running on a Windows Server 2008 64x Terminal Server.

The database and Program Files are hosted on a windows 2000 svr - just need to copy the ntwdblib.dll file into the local C:\Windows\SYSWOW64\ folder...

Works also with Vista 64x
