Need to run Goldmine 6.7 from my Windows Vista 64 PC, software is installed on Windows Server 2003 and I'm getting an error after I try to log in, the error:
Cannot locate or connect to SQL server.

I know that a few people were able to run it on Vista 32, but is there a way around 64?

SQL Client: You'll need to talk to Microsoft about this. Normally, when you buy GoldMine, you get a copy of "normal" SQL Server, i.e. 32-bit, which includes the "client" component. I'm not sure if the 32-bit client will work on a 64-bit machine. In any case, you can locate your original installation media, install SQL on your computer (just the client connectivity component) and see if a) it installs, b) it works. In some cases GoldMine can be made to work without the sql client software, but according to FrontRange, the client software is required (and, by the way, makes sense).
BDE: The pointer to the BDE is in the registry. Your other units may have their registry pointer for the BDE set correctly. Your BDE registry is probably not set correctly. Go to hklm/software and delete the Borland key. Then try running GoldMine from your network share. Back up your registry if you're not sure of your ability to recover from any inadvertent disaster.
I'm pretty sure that GoldMine 6.7 specifically looks for SQL 2000 connectivity components. So if you have say SQL 2005 management tools or SQL Native Client drivers that would allow you to setup ODBC connection and query the database successfully, etc... but that's still not enough for GM 6.7. You can install SQL 2000 connectivity components from a SQL Server 2000 CD, that is if Vista lets you run that install. I have found on Win XP machines where this is a problem simply getting a copy of the file NTWDBLIB.DLL from another machine and putting it into the system32 folder does the trick. I don't know if Vista works the same.
And of course your BDE settings need to be correct but hopefully your GoldMine installation is setup in such a way that all client machines are looking to a shared BDE configuration on the server.
It's much more readily fixed "hands on" rather than piecemeal hither and thither.
Here's something else to try:
Start | run | regedit
hklm/software... delete your Borland key.
Run GoldMine again, and GoldMine should a) find the default Borland location under g:\goldmine\setup\bdeshare
Then, GoldMine should run. If it doesn't, re-check your drive-letter mapping, making sure it's the same as everyone else on the network. Try your GoldMine login on someone else's computer, to prove that your GoldMine acct. isn't the problem.

You're right in one sense... the version of GoldMine your company is using is not meant to run on Vista 64. More recently, GoldMine Premium Edition is designed for that purpose.
Original intentions of the publisher notwithstanding, my guess is that GoldMine can be made to work on your computer; it's just a matter of whether it's worth the time/effort/expense required to do so.

I doubt that 64-bit is at all fatal. I just tested 6.7 on my 64-bit machine -- no problem.
Keep in mind that this version of GoldMine requires the SQL client software to be installed on your local computer. Be sure you use the 64-bit version.
Also, this version of GoldMine requires that the BDE settings be correct, pointing to the correct server and database.
