The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

DB2 V8.1, DWC and Microsoft SQL Server 2000

Hello,

I have a problem with the data extraction from a Microsoft SQL 2000 Server to my Datawarehouse that is running on DB2 V8.1. I use the generic ODBC from the warehouse source, and it connects and retrieves the data.

My problem is with certain field types (namely nText, nChar and nVarChar). Data in those fields is somehow "doubled" when I run my steps. The result is data that has an extra "char" after each char (resulting in a square when I sample the contents). I have traced the problem back to the ODBC driver (that is the driver for SQL2K) and DB2's interpretation of unicode data.

From what I can see, the ODBC driver now reports unicode fieldtypes, and a "bug" in DB2 doubles the data. I cannot find anything on the IBM support site, we kinda hate each other (I can never ever find anything that makes sense). I have already tried to set the compatebility level for the iwh2agnt.exe (with the odbccmpt tool) so it will be treated as a SQL 7.0 agent (thus let the SQL server report normal text, char and varchar field types) but that does not help.

Does anybody else have a similar set-up, and what are solutions to the problem described. Thanks in advance for any time spend on this question.

Kind regards,

David.
