How do I import variable labels from an Excel File together with my data?

I have a bunch of data in MS Excel that I want to import into SPSS. I want to import the variable names together with the data. The variable names are in the first row of each column. Does SPSS provide a way for me to import all the data?

I am not all that familiar with SPSS, but one way might be to import all data except the first row. Then cut and paste the first row.

Thanks. Actually I figured out the way through google search:

From my knowledge so far, Variable names are automatically imported. So I had to write syntax to get the variable labels in. Now I am struggling with a new issue with value labels.

Is there syntax that allows one to ADD to already existing value labels? I will give the points to whoever will give this solution.

You can use this:
ADD VALUE LABELS Question1 1,"Monday" 2,"Tuesday" 3,"Wednesday".
