Are you trying to convert your data  to this international format?

by: dgrafxPosted on 2004-06-02 at 20:36:14ID: 11218789

Hi - yes I looked @ meridian after I posted this.
I'm looking for something similar to the US & Canadian zip & postal code database.
The end result is to get latitude & longitude for European locations.
Actually all I need is europe. And I imagine all the countries are different - like some may have a postal type code and others don't.
I'm thinking one would enter city and country to get latitude and longitude.
Or is there a better method?

Any input on this would be appreciated.
The meridian product for europe costs around $500 and is in text format.
Can you point me in a better direction or just any input?
Thanks

Here is a link that will give you the lat/long for just about anywhere.
http://space.cweb.nl/phplocos.html

Good luck hope it helps.

Thanks - but we need the database or text file to import to database.
The problem is that I can't find a product that has postal code (or whatever it may be called) for Europe.
This is what I'm looking for.
Thanks,

btw - the meridian product does not have postal code.

It looks to me from what I have seen that you are going to have to pay for this type of information.  I have attached a link with a small article on zip (postal code) data and links to vendors and free data sites that include Europe.

I also found this site with downloads of postal code data in excel, but it is broken out by each country.

Sorry it took so long to respond.
>CWise - Took a look at the links and found more at the site. Haven't found exactly what we're looking for yet - emailed customer service - waiting to hear back. Thanks - Please post anything else you come across. And yes, of course we know we have to pay for it.

>mrfixit22 - Thanks for posting but it seems that the links you've posted involve going to someone elses site to look up records. Except for meridianworld which doesn't have postal codes.

We're looking for a European postal code database or file that can be imported into a database.
It needs to have
City
Country
Latitude
Longitude
Postal Code

Thanks,
dm

Thanks

bmeyns, you said you found a db for Belgium and France.  Can I ask where?

dgrafx, did Amy Platt have the info you were looking for?  I think you and I need the exact same thing.

As per Germany, you can find a pretty decent free db here:

http://www.opengeodb.de/download/

It helps if you speak German.

Thanks...

Hi,

we've bought a database with the Belgian data via www.ngi.be (50 EUR).
a French database can be downloaded via: http://www.galichon.com/codesgeo/

good luck!

Thanks dgrafx and bmeyns.  I appreciate the help.  BTW, if you're willing and able to pay higher fees, a colleague of mine just found some good stuff on a Dutch site yesterday:

http://www.geodan.nl/uk/product/Geografie/eupc/pg3.htm

Looks like they have every country in Europe available even including some of the old Eastern Bloc.  Mind you, I haven't seen the data yet but it looks promising.

Thanks again,

Alex

I have found some pretty decent Free US Zip databases, but I cannot find a Free Canadian Postal Code database.
Does anyone know where I can find one?

by: vmedicinePosted on 2005-06-08 at 14:32:17ID: 14174926

We spent some time looking for free Canadian postal codes and couldn't turn up anything.  We even talked to a re-seller who said he'd never seen such a thing either.  Tellingly, he noted that if he had found free Canadian ZIPs, he would've repackaged them for sale on his site.  We eventually went with a package from www.greatdata.com.  The data seemed clean and the price wasn't too bad ($700 w/ the Lats and Longs provided--$250 without).
