Hi experts,
     i am a new bie to this GIS....
how can i get the lattitude and longitude for a given city any where in the world through the online real time server or locally database...can any one provide this info..

any site to get latitude and longitude for india...

for eg: if i enter a city name say chennai in india, i need to get it's corresponding lattitude and longitude

I had a hard time finding a free web based application showing Lat/Long.  I did find a list of World cities with their lat/long though:

These sites don't give you the Lat/Long but it looked pretty cool.

what you need is: access online database to obtain latitude and longitude data for a desired location (in the world or a specified country?) by calling an API. right? if so, the solution is calling Web Services, of course, those FREE web services.

some of them are here, but i am not sure if they can provide the data for your desired geographical areas:
