After testing, Firebird 1.5 proved to have way better performance than InterBase Open Edition 6.
Only drawback that now a good Administration Tool is needed to be found. Any suggestions are welcome.

Browse All TopicsHello,
I've been a user of Borland InterBase Open Edition 6.0.1 for a while, and it has been good. However, my InterBase has been thru extremely heavy work loads recently, and I have noticed that sometimes it takes up to 60 seconds to show query results to my clients. I'm not complaining, it's just that it never took so long to process queries before. I don't know... I have this feeling that my server shows signs of being tired.... exhausted. Perhaps it is trying to tell me it's time for its retire?
I know that there are newer versions of InterBase (7.5.1), and if I'd like to stick with the open source there's Firebird 1.5.1, but since I have never had problems with my InterBase version, I have never showed interest in upgrading it; nevertheless now I would like to know if I am missing benefits by not doing so.
If you guys were to convince me to upgrade from my old InterBase 6.0.1, what would you tell me? I'd like you to stress performance factors. Give me your best reasons of why I should upgrade.
Regards.

it could be that a backup and restore (restore to a different name and then rename the file rahter than overwriting the live db) will improve the performance of your existing database.
I know that your current version has several major bugs and the later versions of both interbase and firebird have bug fixes, improved query processing, additional functionality, datatypes etc but you obviously are not hitting the bugs and don't feel you need the additional functionality.
