When i retrive these char values in my C# code I can easily convert them to numerical values.
I have to perform some operation on the char value in a stored procedure (it involves masking off some bits).
WHEN I try to simply cast the value to INTEGER I get a run time database error. 'conversion error from string".
here is an example:
DECLARE VARIABLE VAR1 CHAR(1);
DECLARE VARIABLE INT1 INTEGER;
INT1 = CAST(VAR1 AS INTEGER); - error!
I think that casting tries to convert string to integer and this particular character doesn't represent a number.
Is there any way to extract the numerical value of the char in the database domain?
