Please post details, why do you believe it's corrupt? what errors do you get, what version of firebird

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-09 at 00:23:27ID: 24578817

I beleive the table HR_WAGE_BOOK is corrupt because when I use this command "select * from hr_wage_book" or "delete * from HR_Wage_BOOK", I receive this error message:

Error Message:
----------------------------------------
Unsuccessful execution caused by a system error that precludes
successful execution of subsequent statements.
database file appears corrupt ().
wrong page type.
page 49913 is of wrong type (expected 7, found 5).
----------------------------------------

I still can fetch some records of this table.
This is the database:

http://www.4shared.com/file/110736217/f401d1f5/SSP_HRM_DB_VanTaiBiaSG.html

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-09 at 01:55:01ID: 24579248

And the version of firebird is 2.0

by: NickUpsonPosted on 2009-06-09 at 01:56:29ID: 24579263

please attempt to do a backup & restort (to a different nameed file) if this has errors try using gfix

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-09 at 02:32:13ID: 24579423

When I try backing up the database, I receive this error:
------------------------------------------------------------
Unsuccessful excution caused by a system error that precludes successful excution of subsequent statements.
Database file appears corrupt ().
wrong page type.
Page 49913 is of wrong type (expected 7, found 5).
gds_$receive failed.
-------------------------------------------------------------
So the backing up failed :(.

so what version of firebird

what happens if you use gfix

by: NickUpsonPosted on 2009-06-09 at 03:10:26ID: 24579573

ok I see you are using firebird 2.0, but there should be 3 digits 2.0.?

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-09 at 06:28:14ID: 24580856

I use Firebird-2.0.3.12981.

by: NickUpsonPosted on 2009-06-09 at 06:36:40ID: 24580941

what happens when you run gfix against this database,

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-09 at 18:37:44ID: 24587405

I'm very new to firebird. So I don't know how/where to run gfix? What do I need to run gfix?

by: NickUpsonPosted on 2009-06-09 at 23:22:43ID: 24588396

gfix is a utility program like gbak only it's job is to try and fix problems like yours

do you know why the corruption occurred, obviously this also needs to be sorted out

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-10 at 18:01:01ID: 24597970

My company buys a program that use this database. It seems when the program runs a command that use/update a lot of tables, the database corrupts. Could you give me the link to download gfix/gbak? Is it free?

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-10 at 18:25:53ID: 24598079

OK. I found gfix in "C:\Program Files\Firebird\Firebird_2_0\bin" :D. But when I run command
C:\Program Files\Firebird\Firebird_2_0\bin>gfix -validate "C:\Program Files\SSP\HRM20\SSP_HRM_DB_VanTaiBiaSG.GDB" -user sysdba -password masterkey, there's no return message! Is the syntax right?

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-10 at 20:49:29ID: 24598633

This is the result when I run gfix:
------------------------------------------------------------------
C:\Program Files\Firebird\Firebird_2_0\bin>gfix.exe -v -full -user sysdba -pass
masterkey "C:\Program Files\SSP\HRM20\SSP_HRM_DB_VanTaiBiaSG.GDB"
Summary of validation errors
Number of index page errors     : 257
Number of database page errors  : 10115
------------------------------------------------------------------
How to fix it now?

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-10 at 20:55:37ID: 24598660

And the result of gfix with repairing:
------------------------------------------------------
C:\Program Files\Firebird\Firebird_2_0\bin>gfix.exe -mend -full -ignore -user sy
sdba -pass masterkey "C:\Program Files\SSP\HRM20\SSP_HRM_DB_VanTaiBiaSG.GDB"
Summary of validation errors
Number of index page errors     : 257
Number of database page errors  : 10115
------------------------------------------------------
Nothing fixed :((. It can detect errors but it cannot fix it.

by: NickUpsonPosted on 2009-06-11 at 01:42:16ID: 24599959

having used -mend you should now be able to take a valid backup, hopefully

there is no good reason for the corruption to happen in the way you describe, it is possible, although difficult, to corrupt a database from the client program. common normal causes are things like taking a file copy while it's in use or bad ram

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-11 at 06:45:00ID: 24602155

Everything is possible to corrupt the database file. But the important thing is fix it. gfix can't fix. So is there other ways?

by: NickUpsonPosted on 2009-06-12 at 01:31:50ID: 24610217

you may be able to do a backup & restore now, please try

if not you can either copy the data a table at a time to another database and then use that to replace the original (losing some data that cannot be extracted) or pay www.ibsurgeon.com who can probably fix it

by: phuocnhPosted on 2009-06-12 at 01:56:17ID: 24610305

try to contact SSP to be supported!

by: phuocnhPosted on 2009-06-12 at 02:37:01ID: 24610503

or contact me if you cannot solve it!

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-12 at 04:42:39ID: 24611133

I uploaded the database at http://www.4shared.com/file/110736217/f401d1f5/SSP_HRM_DB_VanTaiBiaSG.html. I try backing up the database but the backup process failed. Please download and try if there's any program can fix it. The data in the corrupt table isn't important. It seems you know somenone in SSP :D?

by: phuocnhPosted on 2009-06-14 at 18:11:29ID: 24625872

Your database can recovery well but I cannot show you the procedure here.
contact me if you want.

by: maidinhtaiPosted on 2009-06-28 at 19:56:22ID: 24733432

I'll contact the software provider to fix it! If anyone can show procedure fixing it, please post it here!
