I need to set up a LDAP server for a document scanner I have, a HP 9200c.
All i need to know is how to i set an LDAP server up, as it may be useful for other photocopiers and scanners on the network.
Also, can i install this on any windows 2003 standard server?
on a DC, or Exchange server?
I have never done one of these before and timing is everything, ive been asked to do this before the end of tomorrow :o(

LDAP stands for "Lightweight Directory Access Protocol", and it is the standard protocol for communication between all implementations of network-based directores, such as Microsoft's Active Directory and other directories, client workstations and other software/hardware requiring access to the directory. Since your Windows Server is a domain controller, this server will support LDAP by default as this is how it does the majority of communication.
I assume you will be using the LDAP for authentication. If so, you will need to know the DC name, port number on which to connect over LDAP (by default this is TCP port 389) and in most cases you will need a username and password of a user (doesn't have to be an administrator or domain admin) within the domain to bind to the server with. This is so that you get slightly elevated permissions than if you browse as an anonymous user.
