SQLBrowser service issues

Dear Expert Exchange pro's,

I received this question from a good friend / colleague of me. He has an issue with the following;

It regards the installation of SQL Server 2008 Express. The installation was successfull or at least he thinks it is. It has been installed on a Server 2008 R2 (64Bit) machine (with latest windows updates). The firewall is disabled and UAC is also disabled. Unfortunately the service cannot be started. This information is located in the SQL event viewer:

- The SQLBrowser service was unable to establish SQL instance and connectivity discovery.
- The SQLBrowser service port is unavailable for listening, or invalid.

And this is whats in the log file;

Detailed results:
  Feature:                       Database Engine Services
  Status:                        Failed: see logs for details
  MSI status:                    Passed
  Configuration status:          Failed: see details below
  Configuration error code:      0x7927F34F@1211@1
  Configuration error description: SQL Server Browser configuration for feature 'SQL_Browser_Redist_SqlBrowser_Cpu32' was cancelled by user after a previous installation failure. The last attempted step: Starting the SQL Server Browser service 'SQLBrowser', and waiting for up to '900' seconds for the process to complete. .
  Configuration log:             C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20101027_151228\Detail.txt

If Anyone has an idea to what this might be, would be very helpfull. If more information is needed please let me know and i will provide it. Many, many thanks in advance.

Best of regards.

If the server does not have more than 1 sql server instances then just keep the SQLBrower service stopped. If you are facing some connectivity issue after that also then it seems that SQL Brower service is not installed coeectly while installing the SQL server.

Would one require the SQL Browser service to be in a running state when configuring SQL Server Replication?
