This is a wierd and bazar thing happening.
I have a TEXT field.
I copied a large text and pasted it into the field.
It seems like it only accepted 1025 chars.
Now when i try to delete the value or modify it i get an error message "Cannot Edit this cell".
This is a table, not a view.
And the properties of the field are:
I thought first that it might be something with my table so i created a test table with only a TEXT field. But still the same problem.
In fact It is STILL the same problem in all my databases. Not only with that database.
i could not find anything "usefull" about this is MSDN or microsoft knowledge base.

I guess you try to do this in the Enterprise Manager.
The editor that allows you to modify the data has some limitations, especially when you try to work with TEXT data types.
While it probably has saved all the text you provided, it only SHOWS you the first 1025 chars (which seems however an odd number to me, would expect 1024).
To delete the field value in EM, try to hit <ctrl><0>, this will set the value back to NULL...
Now, you should be aware of that TEXT datatype needs somehow specific functions to be modified, and EM does not support this. You will need to work with the Query Analyser, using the APPENDTEXT and/or UPDATETEXT functions to fully work with the TEXT data field.
Note: if you don't need more than 8000 chars in your column, you should change to varchar datatype. If you can manage to split your data up, do so. Use TEXT only if you REALLY need this...

The Data being stored was only 1025 chars.

I tried with different data/tables/databases. still the same thing.
I cannot modify/Edit/Delete/ or even set to Null. i getthe error message "Cannot Edit this cell"
I am aware of APPENDTEXT and/or UPDATETEXT functions. The problem is pasting into EM.
I have SQL 2000 with SP2 installed.
This is starting to feel like another MS-bug.
Could someone try this:
1. Create a test table.
2. Create a TEXT field.
3. Copy a large text (full webpage for example).
4. Paste it into your cell.
I assume now that when you save more text that the field can handle it starts the "CANNOT EDIT THIS CELL" error message.
I have not seen this in any bug report on Microsoft online knowledge book. However this might be a just some configuration with me server??.. I really dont have a clue.
But the fact that there is a work around (created an online form to handle the insert) made this matter not urgent.
It would be nice though if i know what is going on.

I know of that behaviour, and as I said, EM is not a good front-end to use to save that kind of data.
Use the APPENDTEXT and UDPATETEXT functions to do that kind of things... Enterprise Manager is only a tool to manage the server, not to manage the data as such. It is not like MSAccess, where you have everything in 1 box...

Results Pane
The Results pane shows the results of the most recently executed Select query. (The results of other query types are displayed in message boxes.)
In the Results pane you can:
View the result set for the most recently executed Select query in a spreadsheet-like grid.
Edit the values in individual columns in the result set, add new rows, and delete existing rows. For details, see Editing Rows in the Results Pane.
If you change the query definition (for example, add another output column to the query), the Query Designer dims the Results pane to indicate that it no longer reflects the current query. However, you can still navigate in the Results pane grid to edit, add, or delete rows.
Data in the Results Pane
When you execute a Select query, open a view, or open a table, the result set appears in the Results pane.
The Results pane uses these conventions:
Columns containing no value display the word <NULL>.
Columns containing binary data display the word <Binary>. You cannot edit the contents of these of columns.
Columns containing long varchar-type data display up to 900 characters of data. If the data is longer, the cell displays <Long Text>.
Columns format number, currency, time, and date information according to the options set in the Regional Settings dialog box in the Microsoft® Windows® Control Panel.

To enter a NULL value into a cell, press CTRL+0.
You can edit a memo-type column (such as a text, memo, or long character column) if the column does not display <Long Text>. The Results pane can accept up to 900 characters of text in memo-type columns. If you are typing in a cell and exceed the amount of text that the Results pane can accept, the Query Designer will beep to indicate that you have exceeded this limit.
