The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Parse keywords from textbox  into a SQL Query..... Please Help.....

Asked by pkeller2003 in Databases Miscellaneous

Tags: access, query, textbox, sql, parse

I have a frontpage website w/ MS Access that allows users to search a table called Listing.

However, if there is a record that has "used piii 20gb hd" in it and if someone were to search "piii 20gb hd used", that search would return no records found because the "used" does not precede the "piii".

I need to parse each word eg. "piii" then search the list_Description, Comments, Major_Class, School, and Course_Number columns of the Listing table and return the results in a Subtable(1) then search Subtable(1) for the next parsed keyword eg. "20gb" then return those records in Subtable(2) and then search Subtable(2) for the next keyword from the parsed textbox eg. "hd" and return those records in Subtable(3) etc... until all keywords have been parsed and the database displays Subtable(N) with all of the desired records..  I am a Novice-Intermediate in SQL and VB script FYI.

The columns describe above are the actual names of the columns that could contain possible keywords.

This is the current query that doesn't produce the desired results.

SELECT * FROM Location
INNER JOIN ([Section] INNER JOIN (Category INNER JOIN Listing ON Category.CategoryID = Listing.CategoryID) ON Section.SectionID = Category.SectionID) ON Location.LocationID = Listing.LocationID
WHERE (Listing.List_Description LIKE '%::List_Description::%' OR Listing.Comments LIKE '%::List_Description::%'
OR Listing.Major_Class LIKE '%::List_Description::%' OR Listing.Course_Number LIKE '%::List_Description::%' OR Listing.School LIKE '%::List_Description::%')
AND (Category.Cat_Description  LIKE '%::Cat_Description::%' )
AND (Category.CategoryID LIKE '%::CategoryID::%')
AND (Listing.LocationID LIKE '%::LocationID::%')
AND (Section.SectionID LIKE '%::SectionID::%')
Order By Timestamp DESC

I would be forever greatful if anyone could help me get past this. Thank You
