That is totally acceptable, if you are correct Sjoerd. In access a 500 KB jpeg adds 20 MB to your database size. However, given the experience with Access, it needs to be verified that you are right about bloat in MSDE.

Browse All TopicsGreetings,
As you all know, MS Access has a huge problem handling images. If images are embedded as OLE objects then the DB bloats in an unnacceptable manner. If linked images or BLOBs are used, the forms cannot show related images in a continuous subform.
I am wondering if database bloat will occur if I migrate my access database to MSDE and embed images. I know it migrates OLE types to image types.
Thanks

Then try
sp_helpdb 'yourdatabasename'
Since you're considering alternatives, how about the new SQL Server 2005 Express? It's free, and will replace MSDE. It doesn't yet have a graphical interface, but MS is far along in the development of SQL Server Express Manager, and is expected to be released soon. http://www.microsoft.com/s

That all depends on what you deem "unacceptable". The database will grow by the size of the image files, each rounded up to 8K.
