The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Help converting Access DB to SQL Server 2000

Asked by StickyDragon in Databases Miscellaneous

I have an access database that I need to convert to SQL Server 2000. I am having some trouble with it though...

When I try to do a database import on the SQL server I get a JET Database Engine error saying "Cannot start your application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user." There is no one using this database though, in fact I made a copy of the live database and saved it on the SQL server just to be sure that the DB was not being used at all.

I also tried an upsize database wizard from Access and although no errors came up, the report indicated that every table was "skipped, or export failed". There is no description as to why this would happen.

Thinking that maybe the database was too big, or the queries and macros were causing trouble, I created a new DB with 1 table and tried that one. This one worked in the upsize, but then I opened the Enterprise manager on the SQL server and the database was not on the list so I don't know where these things are actually going.

Anyone done this before and have some tips or answers as to why things aren't working out as planned?
