The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Running a package on a local server to update records on a remote server

I want to create a package that will selectively update records on a remote sql server, iif a corresponding record exists or create a new record if it doesn't.  The catch is, if it does exist and has a manual override flag set, not to update.

Right now I have a package which drops the destination table and recreates it and inserts all records to it.  This works but not ideally because I want to selectively update the records.  Not an "everything or nothing" package.

I thought I could do something like this for the update... but I dont know how to do the "if exists... update... else insert" on a batch query like this.  I have only done that type of thing when sending a single record to be updated/inserted.

set available = d.[AVAILABLE], leadTime =  d.[LEAD_TIME]
from [md].[ITEMS_ON_HAND] p
join [rw].[INVENTOR] d
on p.sku = d.item_id
where p.userOveride = 'N'

And I dont know how the syntax should be, the code above is rejected by the package designer in Enterprise manager.  The error is "Statement could not be prepared.  Invalid object name <database name."  Basically it appears as though it doesn't recognize the remote database ([md]) in this case.

Am I going about this wrong?
