The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Breaking up huge resultsets

I'm devlopping a database driven website, so network traffic is an issue and resources is an issue too. If a query return 30,000 record, I don't want to keep them in the client's browser or in the middleware.

Since we have the experts here I thought of asking you guys what's the state of the art in getting around that problem. Below is the result of my initial search and the disadvantages of each method. Are there new mwthods to solve this problem?

First Method
========
1- Get the number of rows first
2- Query the db for the first 25 rows
3- Display the number of rows along with the first 25 records.
4- Query the db for the next 25 rows when the user indicates so.

Disadvantages:
1- Getting the number of rows is a costy operation
2- What if new rows added/deleted between step 3 and 4? (the number of rows and the result set are no longer the same)

Second Method:
===========
1- Push the result set to a temp table
2- Display that table in chunks

Disadvantages:
1- Too much resources (what if 5000 queries were run against the db? We will have 5000 extra tables?)
2- What if new rows added/deleted
