The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

500pnts!!!!! - SQL Server Deployment & Security

Asked by GillyTheTaffy in Databases Miscellaneous

Hi there

SQL amateur here so should be an easy 500 pnts

I've posted a similar question a while back ( http://www.experts-exchange.com/Programming/Programming_Languages/C_Sharp/Q_21598256.html?query=Could+Not+Find+Stored+Procedure&clearTAFilter=true )

I am having similar issues when deploying our dev database server and web app to our test environment. We deploy via the following process.

1) Generate SQL Script on DEV box
2) Create New Database on TEST  box, run generated script on TEST box
3) Create a user or user group on our AD server - eg TEST1
4) Add TEST1 to TEST db and grant access to the user/group as db_owner
5) Install our Web App

When I log into a remote machine as TEST1 or a user within the GROUP and run a simple test

        mcnSQL = new SqlConnection();
        mcnSQL.ConnectionString = "integrated security=SSPI;data source=" + sqlServer + ";persist security info=False;";
        mcnSQL.Open();

        SqlCommand oSqlCommand = new SqlCommand("dbo.spfSPTest", mcnSQL);
        oSqlCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
        SqlDataReader oReader = oSqlCommand.ExecuteReader();

Which throw an exception 'Could Find Store Procedure dbo.spfSPTest'

This app is run via IIS which is configured with anonomous access disabled, I also have impersonation set to true in web.config and have checked the user correctly comes through as SPF/TEST1

I've read up in various sites that the issue lies with the dbo as that user would be the logged in user at the time the script was executed. But I can't find any real explanation why or any standard practices to deploy SQL databases.

One other thing to note is that after several hours of tweaking permissions, adding/removing/re-adding the users or group it eventually will start working but have no idea how or why!

TIA and let me know if you want more info or the database script.

Cheers
