The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Unknown Publisher error message on Access 2003 application.
Tags: publisher, unknown, error, access
I have an Access that's frontend and backend.  I've decided to split the frontend and put all the reports and their associated queries in an .mdb to themselves and run them from the backend.  I've set up a shortcut which points to this report entity (now on the backend).  When I double click on the shortcut, I get the Unknown Publisher error message.  When I click on Open, the report app on the backend then opens and runs fine.

What is this error message really saying and how can I keep it from showing up.

Add this UNC network path to your trusted sites in your internet explorer (under connections)

per:

I've tried both of your suggestions and neither worked (including all those in the link provided by DatabaseMX).  I'm accessing the backend via a mapped network drive over a local network.

Any other suggestions?

Can you post the exact error message, along with the error number?

Was this a database you built yourself? Or one you received from someone else?

LOL ...  must have been the subject line.  I get about 50 viagra spams/day ... the ones with graphics instead of text ... but, with similar subject lines ... which go into my trap.

There is no error message number.  The title bar is Open File - Security Warning

Name: careuser2.mdb
Publisher: Unknown Publisher
Type: Microsoft Office Access Application
From: Q:\Care

careuser2.mdb is my own application.  I'm accessing it from the mapped drive Q

By looking thru other questions submitted regarding this problem, I found a solution.
1.Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options
2.Security Tab > Internet > Custom Level
3. Launching applications and unsafe files > Enable

This, of course, opens you to the risk of launching something nasty; but at least you have a choice about whether you get an annoying message and still remail safe or not.

Thank you for posting that info back ... good to know.

Do you know what the equivalent of enabling the "launching applications and unsafe files" would be in internet explorer 6 ?
