How to split text based on a new line delimiter in SQL/Crystal Reports

I have a table in SQL that holds a list of values
                            COL 1
ROW 1 AAAAA BBBBBB CCCCCC DDDDDD          
ROW 2 EEEEEE FFFFFF GGGG HHHHHHHH      
ROW 3 JJJJJJJ KKKKK LLLLL MMMM

I want to have it divide the values up to seperate columns so that I end up with

                        COL 1         COL 2          COL 3         COL 4          
ROW 1           AAAAA      BBBBBB      CCCCCC     DDDDDD          
ROW 2           EEEEEE        FFFFFF       GGGG        HHHHHHH        
ROW 3           JJJJJJJ        KKKKK        LLLLL         MMMM        

I have spoken with some SQL friends and they say it cannot be done cleanly

if this can be done in Crystal Reports or SQL I would love to know as soon as possible.
