Cannot get the Hello World Tutorial from Java Persistence with Hibernate working

Experts:

This is a tutorial.  Tutorials are not supposed to be this difficult, especially "Hello World".
I have followed the instructions and created all of the classes, xml files, config files, etc.  I have a project hierarchy that looks like this:

I have been resolving one error after another trying off and on for a month to get this tutorial to work.  I think I'm getting very close but now I am receiving the following error and I'm losing patience.

When I try to run the app, it bombs on me on the very first line of code while trying to create the sessionFactory.  Can anybody tell me what the problem is?
