Is there a Relationship between internet connection and SQL Connectivity on LAN ?

Hi Experts,
I have a 50-60 nodes-LAN. Have win 2003, SQL Server-2000. whenever the internet connectivity is slow, I can see that the ODBC connectivity to the SQL Server gets slow. Can I get some help on this please.
