Crystal Report Logon Failed Error

I am trying to refresh data from a IDAPI Database but when when the database Path comes up and I hit the Finish button, it returns 'Logon failed' message.

Then kindly check whether you supplied correct credentials or not.
Also check whether your connection string was correct and you are pointing to the correct server/ database.

How are you trying to refresh?

Is this inthe Crystal designer or when you view the report through an application?

Thanks for adding me to 'the zone'. I will attach a word document showing you see the sequence of events. I am able to go to the backend and get to the data, so I do have rights to the server it resides on.

What version was the report built with?

What  version is the viewer?

Version for the report is 11.0 and the viewer is 10.0.0.533

That could be an issue since there are differences but proably it wouldn't affect the data selection or logging into the database.

Does the database require a login?

The server that the database resides on requires a login

Then you need to provide the logon information.
Not sure how to do it since it isn't being prompted for.

Well...I just talked to someone else here working on it and it DOES ask for a userID and password. But...I hate to say it but they don't know what the userID nor password is. Now how would you find that out?

Well there in lies the problem...He doesn't remember the UserID or password. Guess I'll be Googling to look for a way :)

You might contact the database developer to see if there is a basic backdoor or if you can open the database on a different installation.

So sa credentials are not known to anyone now..

Then this is the time you need to use Dedicated Administrator Connection ( DAC)
Just log in to your SQL Server as follows using the steps below:

Make sure..

1. You are trying this one in the server where database resides.
2. Windows Authentication is enabled.
3. And the credential used for logging into Server machine has admin rights on that machine.

Once you are logged in through this, you can reset sa password and other passwords as required.
