Moving the database

Hi,
I need to move quite a big database from MySQL to PostgreSQL. I tried to do that by simply dumping the whole database with mysqldump, and the pushing it to postgres with 'psql db < dumpfile'. This,of course, haven't worked. Any ideas?

I don't know the utilities and tools for postgreSQL, but you will need to either export/import using flat files that have a "common" format, or use an application that connects to both databases and transfers the data between them.
Using mysqldump obviously cannot work for import in pgsql, as the internal formats used are different.

Do you know such util for mysql?

try phpmyAdmin to export the CREATE and INSERT statements.
then amend the CREATE statements according to postgresql.
of course execute all the statements in psql finally.

I think the best solution would be to export csv-files from Mysql (can be done via phpmyAdmin) and importing them from PG.

This works fine, as long as you don't have BLOBs...
