The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Duplicate records

Asked by Hamed53 in MySQL Server

Hi all,

I am developing an message board like application using PHP and Mysql, however i ran into a small issue that i am undecided about my planned solution!

The situation is, when a user receives a new post! once replied to the new post i wouldnt like him to be able to reload his browser and submit the reply twice! The records are all identified by ID field which is an auto_increment so in theory it would allow the next record to be added!

The solution that i have thought of is basically checking the status of the post record for it being a "replied/unreplied" post then allow the reply process to take place.

I need to know if there is a lighther way of doing this!? This table will have lots of "short" posts and replies and i do not want to add extra checks and queries upon it for any other processes in case that would slow down my database...

In the other hand the above solution only stands where i have post/reply queries but when a user wants to add comments about other user, he can reload his browser by mistake and the comment is added twice! There is no status field in this case for validation. No fields can be set to unique as any user can submit many comments about other users! but i like to disallow the same comments submitted twice by reload problems!

I'll appreciate your help on this...

Regards
Hamed
