Question

Unable to restore database tables - duplication error

Asked by: TeKKeD

I'm unable to restore my database tables for the SMF Forum I've running. I need to solve this issue, see my SQL dump below to see what's going on.  I've created a new database and imported the sql file into that new database but get only 24 tables and the following error:

SQL query:

Could you post the definition (CREATE TABLE) of the `smf_log_search_subjects` table?

by: AdrianSRUPosted on 2007-08-21 at 06:24:34ID: 19737547

You have a (01,239) record at the beginning and a (1,239) record later in the statement.  That is why you are having this problem since MySQL considers the numerical value 01 to be the same as 1, so the second record is a duplicate.

What is your data type for that field?  You have some dates and other strings in there.  If you want the full text string to go into the table then you need quote marks around the numbers (ex. '01' and '1').  That way the entire string will be saved and you will have no duplicates.

Hope this helps!

What I've done is when the forum was initially in working condition I did regular backups using the backup tool provided by SMF, which also was able to backup the table structure.  When I imported the entire backup file into a newly created database, only 24 tables would appear and the above error would be presented.

I've just re-installed SMF into a new folder and have it working without any data in it, which produced 42 tables.  Know I don't know why only 24 tables were backed up and why I'm having truble updating my backed up data into a new database.

I'll try and post more details in just a little while (I'm at work) :(

My guess is that all 42 tables were included in your backup file but since your script resulted in the insert error the queries that should have created the tables after that point were never executed.  If you fix the insert query you should get all of your tables back.

What should I be looking for in the insert query to modify so that' it gets fixed? Because the whole structure has users and the passwords I can't post the whole SQL file here, because I know that would be easier for solving the problem.

by: leannonnPosted on 2007-08-22 at 12:06:56ID: 19748859

Just enclose the first element in single/double quotes and it should work, e.g.
---
... ( '0', 219 ) , ( '0', 236 ) , ( '0', 262 ) ...
---

Ok I just went through the whole SQL backup file code block by code block and was able to just about finish everything.  Only two statements produce errors, 1) smf_log_search_subjects 2) smf_members (Which is the most importat part of the entire forum.  I'm getting the following error after running the insert members query "#1062 - Duplicate entry '1' for key 1 "???

I just noticed this, even though I'm getting the above error when trying insert the users table into the database, for some odd reason the table is full with all the users and their personal settings.  Why would there be a error but still the insert query was execute successfully?

by: leannonnPosted on 2007-08-22 at 22:52:50ID: 19751813

> Why would there be a error but still the insert query was execute successfully?

Is all the data in there? All rows? Maybe only some of it got inserted...

by: TeKKeDPosted on 2007-08-23 at 08:46:20ID: 19755405

Well there are 159 rows in all in the table with 53 columns, and I didn't check them all but I did put the forum back into function and asked some users to login and they were able to login have told me that all seems to working fine... besides losing a few posts due to the fact that the backup was a month old anyways...

Can you recommend a way to fully backup my whole database, i'm using phpmyadmin?!

by: leannonnPosted on 2007-08-23 at 08:54:15ID: 19755494

Apart from what you've already been doing, but with the modification suggested, I don't have any more ideas... :(
