The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

mysql database administrator howto

Asked by xinfotec in MySQL Server, Databases Miscellaneous

hi my boss wanted me to pick up the dba work for the MySQL servers at our company.  We have huge database & application have data for casinos, web2.0s, videos, giant financial companies etc

My problem is I was developer before and only write general queries, although I do know some performance tuning techniques. But to master the work, I need to go above and beyond to the next level. I don't have big $ to take training courses from MySQL.com. My company doesn't have resource for me either. I guess I can pay $100 or so to buy some book(or CD if there is any), which is the maximum I can take out of my own pocket. But I don't know which one is the best.

Our db system is not trivial. we are migrating from mysql 4.0 to 5.0
Right now I am setting up 4 tesing machines and googled some tutorials trying to pick up
1)realtime bi-directional synchronous replication
2) failover
3) realtime mirroing

But I think I am looking for help for a more systematic approach to learn DBA(high availability)
I have about one week to pick it up. It seems challenging for me, but I must conquor it.

I am giving out 500 points looking for help with specific details!
