SELECT IFNULL(b.fld1, default(b.fld1)) AS col,
FROM a
LEFT JOIN b ON b.id = a.fld1_id
JOIN c ON c.id = a.fld2_id
WHERE a.fld1_id=5
But, this works (returns 2.5 when b.fld1 is null):
SELECT IFNULL(b.fld1, 2.5) AS col,
FROM a
LEFT JOIN b ON b.id = a.fld1_id
JOIN c ON c.id = a.fld2_id
WHERE a.fld1_id=5
and this works too (returns the default value when fld1 is null):
SELECT IFNULL(fld1, default(fld1)) AS col FROM b;
