The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Automatic delete Archivelogs on a PRIMARY - STANDBY Database Deployment

Asked by regisdaniel in Oracle 10.x, Oracle Database

Tags: , ,

Hi Experts.

Actualy I have an Oracle 10G database deployment that contemplate two boxes: A Primary and a Standby database. I'm having some troubles to manage when I need (could) delete the logfiles generated by the process. Actualy I do this deletion using a cron job, that deletes all logfiles on both primary and standby database, without checking if the logfile was already transfered and applied... I know that should exist a better (and secure) method to do this, since I alread had to rebuild my stanby database sometimes because the cron deleted a log that wasn't applied to the standby box.

On the documentation, I read something about "define retetion policy". I already defined that, but, if I disable my cron job, the logs get acumulated on my disk, causing the database do crash due lack of disk space.

So, my question is:
How could I implement a automatized and secure way of:
1) Delete archivelogs on my PRIMARY server only when these logs are successfully TRANSFERED to all my standby databases?
2) Delete archivelogs on my STANDBY server only when these logs are sucessfully APPLIED to the database?
3) Which mechanism  should I use to implement this? RMAN, OracleJOB
