Creating a database on Oracle 10g using DBCA - permissions issues?

Hi all,

I need to change the character set of my Oracle 10g DB. This is on an HP-UX platform. I got the go ahead to trash all data and recreate the DB.

Using the export DISPLAY I am running dbca remotely.

I successfully deleted the original database through dbca. Then I tried to recreate it using that same tool (dbca). Configuration goes well, I select the new character sets, define file locations, etc... Then at step 12 of 12 I click on Finish (Create Database check box is checked)

The install starts, and I get the following...

at 2%: ORA-09925: Unable to create audit trail file (I click on Ignore) then
at 4%: ORA-01034: ORACLE not available (I click OK) then
at 4%: ORA-01034: ORACLE not available (I click OK) then it aborts install and sends me back to step 12/12 screen.

I am running dbca as the 'oracle' user. I have tried running it as root with even worst success.

I tried running $ORACLE_HOME/root.sh as root, but that didn't help. I even tried chmod -R oracle:oinstall the entire directory structure of Oracle... with no more success...

Any ideas as to what could be going on? Any help appreciated.

Thank you,
