The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not?   • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Procedure that generates code as "abc-08-00001"

Hi,
I am trying to generate a code using the sequence & procedure in oracle, my present procedure generates the code as "abc-08-1" where 'abc' is the strating letters of company that does not change, '08' is the year being generated from system date and changes with the change in year and '1' is the auto incremented number that comes out from the sequence. I am not very good at coding but still trying to find the solution. I have two questions.

1. I want to generate the code as 'abc-08-00001' instead of 'abc-08-1', how can i get the last digit as '00001'.
2. When a new year starts, my year in code changes from '08' to '09' but the digits does not start from 1, how can i get my value started as '1' with start of a new year.

I am using oracle 10g as the database.
