Hi Folks,
I will try to be as descriptive as possible so I pre-apologize if I run-on a bit in my problem description or if my technical terminology (and knowledge) in some areas may be vague . I am a desktop support manager who is trying to analyze what I beleive to be a Jinitiator issue. If you research "jinitiator proxy pac" you may find SOME additional information. Here's the situation:
We have 1000 +- user network. We are migrating to a Blue Coat appliance for web filtering. With this, we are implementing a Proxy.PAC file which seems to work terrific in most areas except Oracle Financials (Forms 10G ??) , using Jinitiator 1.3.1.28.
The problem is when we set IE to use the autoconfig URL (example:
http://server/proxy.pac), IE crashes as soon as Jinitiator goes to fire off. It crashes with a C++ error. This only happens if we leave Jinitiator set to the default of "use browser settings". If I manually override this through the Jinit GUI and set the specific proxy server for http to the IP address of the proxy server, it works fine, but Jinitiator does not know this this is a LOCAL address and therefore asks for the users LDAP information, via a Jinitiator GUI. Although acceptable, this doesn't seem like the most user friendly alternative/workaround to support.
There seems to be a definate known issue where this version (1.3.1.28) of Jinitiator cannot interpret "browser proxy settings" from the parent browser, especially when a PAC file is involved. We have someone checking on Metalink but based on what I'm Googling there may not be too much out there.
So... my question is, besides what is the magic bullet for this one?, what are my other workarounds? I tried editing Java Runtime Parameters in Jinitiator but pretty much ANYTHING I enter in there has no effect. I have tried enabling tracing, cache directory, forced http proxy... I could enter George Washington in that field (in the Jinitiator GUI) and it would have absolutely no effect. I have also tried manually editing the properties13128 file with things like javaplugin.proxy.config.by
pass=myser
ver:myport
and then setting the settings to manual proxy config in hopes I could force Jinitiator to bypass proxy for this local request, but again, I could put any ascii characters in this properties13128 file and none seem to have any effect.
The name of my server where Oracle Financials exists (for the purposes of this note is zfinpfw) I have tried exceptions up the wazoo in all places I know how/where to no avail, but Jinitiaor just does not like interpreting this PAC file when set in the default browser.
Please, any advice or additional questions to help me provide adequate information for diagnosis is welcome!!
Thanks and best regards.
