The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Find and remove backup jobs in Oracle 10g databases

Asked by I_play_with_DNA in Oracle 10.x

We have two Oracle databases (Oracle 10g) running on one of our servers.  There are one or more online backup jobs configured to run on these databases, but the backup jobs do not show up in OEM.  I know for a fact, however, that these jobs are running, because file shows up in the flash_recovery_areas for these databases every day.  The problem is that the consultant that configured these jobs was supposed to configure them to be self-managing (i.e. only the files necessary to do a complete restore would be kept; obsolete files would automatically be deleted from the flash recovery area.  However, it appears that these jobs just continue until the FRA is full, and then the application servers start giving us problems.  So my questions are as follows:

1.  Why are these jobs not listed in OEM?
2.  How do I find a list of all currently configured backup jobs for each database?  I'm assuming this is done through the RMAN command line, but I'm not really familiar with that tool.
3.  How do I delete the jobs completely?  Do I also have to manually delete all the files in the FRA?  I would like to delete these jobs and then reconfigure them using OEM and/or the Oracle Agent in Symantec Backup Exec 12.
