The Solution Rating System

  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. how can i insert XML data into an oracle table

hi,
i have to migrate an SQL server database to Oracle, now i have many tables in SQL server DB that have one or more XML columns, i have converted those columns to the oracle data type XMLType in my oracle DB .
For a starter was this correct, i.e. converting SQL Server XML to Oracle XMLType?
in the SQL Server stored procedures i noticed that they select, insert and update XML data type as they do with any other data type so i did the same in my oracle procedures, not sure that was correct now though!!
i have to migrate the data as well, what is the best way to extarct it from SQL server tables and insert it in my oracle tables considering the presenec of the XML  data type ?
i was using TOAD 8 to insert the data that was extracted in excel sheets from the SQL server database into my oracle tables and it was going fine until i stumbled into the XML data  !!
in conclusion i'm not sure how to handle this data type in my migration process so any help would be very much appreciated!!
 
my oracle version is 10.0.2.0.2
my platform is windows XP SP2
and i'm migrating from SQL server 2005 database
