Oracle 10g bug: a simple query producing ORA-00904 "invalid identifier" in some 10g databases

This is actually not so much a question but rather a documentation in case others encounter the same problem. I will give the points to whoever can give further confirmation.

A query like the one below gives an "ORA-00904: "A"."DUMMY": invalid identifier" in most databases but ran ok in some. The query should be perfectly legal (albeit absurd) and I can only put it down to an Oracle bug. The database that ran the query had V$VERSION showing:
