Oracle Forms and Reports are the same.
Oracle Developer Suite - it is a developing tool (Forms and Reports builders ... ) - an OC4J instance can be started and stopped for running forms and reports for testing.
Oracle AS forms and reports services - Oracle AS consists of Forms server and Report server. The forms (.fmx) and reports (.rdf) files are deployed there for users who work with them.

This is just an issue of symantics.  The Oracle Technology Network describes them as follows:

"The Internet changes the way we do business -- it expands market opportunities, improves the efficiency of business processes, and offers new ways to retain customers. Oracle Forms Developer and OracleAS Forms Services provide a complete application framework for optimal deployment of Forms applications on the Internet. Together they deliver a Rapid Application Development (RAD) environment and application deployment infrastructure to ensure that your Internet applications automatically scale and perform over any network.

This paper describes some of the new features for the new OracleAS Forms 10g (9.0.4) product release.

Oracle Forms Developer (a component of Oracle Developer Suite)
Oracle Forms Developer provides a set of integrated builders that allow application developers to easily and quickly construct sophisticated database forms and business logic with minimal effort. Oracle Forms Developer's powerful declarative features enable developers to create fully functional applications from database definitions with significantly reduced coding.

OracleAS Forms Services (a component of Oracle Application Server 10g)
OracleAS Forms Services is an application server and associated services that are optimized for deploying Forms applications on the Web. Forms Services delivers out-of-the-box functionality and native services to ensure that Forms applications automatically scale and perform over any network. Forms Services enables rich, extensible Java clients that are optimized for the Web."

The web link for the above article is: (you may need to setup an otn account to view)http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/forms904FeatureOverview.html

Basically, OracleAS Forms is short for Oracle Application Server Forms.  This is the software that runs in the middle tier and runs the forms that you have developed using Oracle Forms Developer, through a web front end.

You don't actually develop anything using OracleAS Forms, you use Oracle Forms Developer, so to answer your question - there is nothing more to learn and anyone who can use Oracle Forms Developer can build forms that run on the web through OracleAS Forms.

The same concept applies to Oracle Reports.  You use Oracle Reports Developer to build the report and Oracle Services allows it to be run and the output viewed via the web.

What IS required is a competent DBA to configure the middle tier i.e. setup OracleAS Forms and Oracle Services, however, as a developer, this isn't something you should need to worry about.

Dear Expert,

Thank you for your explanation

by: MilleniumairePosted on 2009-10-30 at 02:15:23ID: 25701195

I thought daprjo's comment was accepting my explanation, which I assumed was therefore going to be accepted as the solution to the question.  It therefore suprises me that daprjo doesn't want to award any points.

Hi daprjo,

If you feel you need to close this question because you didn't get the required answer, what was it that was missing from the explanation I gave?

Sorry to labour the point, but I feel that I answered the question, so I'm not sure why it is being closed without points being awarded.
