Insert emoticons into oracle database

we are creating a forum where users can send messages. i would like to add the feature of simple emoticons, however i can't seem to find any help on this matter. The icons will be in a drop down menu and once chosen will go into the the text box area. When the insert button is clicked the message will be inserted into the database. The database is an oracle database version 11g using PL/SQL scripting.Start Free Trial
