Grid Control for Oracle 11g for Windows

Hi there,

I have Oracle 11g installed on a server.  We currently use a database control for each database instance.  This equates to 200mb of memory for java.exe and 250 mb of memory for oracle.exe totally 450+mb of memory per database instance
Questions:
1. What is the java.exe process used for ?
2. Will using Grid Control remove the java.exe per database instance ?
3. If so, where can I download the grid control software from for 11g Windows.  I cannot seem to find it ?

Oracle 11g comes with SQLDeveloper that on his turns uses java.exe.
If you do not need SQL develeoper you can stop java.exe

grid control could be downloaded from here

Currently Grid Control is version 10.2.0.5 for OMS and EM agents, and compatible with 11g database.

Which translated means:

a) You need separate Oracle home and a database for Grid Control repository (10g or 11g)
b) You need separate Oracle home for OMS (Oracle Management Server)
c) You need separate home for the EM Agent (on each host)

So, on each host the EM console process can be stopped, but then you will have to start an EM agent process, what you gain with Grid COntrol is centralized management of your instances.

What is the Java.exe service name so we can set it to manual so it does not start when the sever rebooted ?

Hello,  This is a windows 2008 64-bit server. There is no Java reference in the add/remove programs within windows control panel.  
1. Is there a way to skip the install of a sql developer instance when installing a database instance so we do not get the java.exe process running per instance ?
2. Does using Grid Control only load one java.exe process for all database instances or does it still load one per instance ?

Hello,  on looking into this further I have noticed that if I stop the OracleDBConsole Service for the database instance that the java.exe also goes. The OracleServer for the database instance is still running and can be accessed via local workstation no problem.  With the OracleDBConsole Service shut down I just cannot manage the database instance with the DBControl url on the server.

So with this finding if I go back to the original query about Grid Control - will using Grid Control remove the java.exe per database instance because it is centralised management and is more efficent from a memory point of view without duplicating processes per instance ?

Yes, all WEB enabled Oracle components like SQLDeveloper, Oracle Enterpise Manager, Application Express use Java. So they need java.exe.
