We have a financial apps that our management wants to be on high availability.
We had crafted out a failover solution based on Windows 2008 Server Enterprise failover cluster with 2 dedicated servers.
But is it better to use Oracle 11g Standard RAC for Oracle DBMS high availablility?
The problem is I am the server administrator and I am only familiar with Windows administration. Is Oracle 11g RAC setup a trivial step?

From my opinion, Its better to stay on windows, because RAC setup is quite complex. I think its better for you to see by your self, try to install cluster for you self and see. RAC test environment is possible to buld on single laptom with 4GB mem on board. This is nice guide to start:

Oracle RAC is *NOT* simple to setup or administer! If your organization really values high availability, then I question the wisdom of using Windows as the server O/S. I have more than 10 years of experience managing and running Oracle databases on Windows, and I like that combination. I find it easy to manage and tune, but I do not it consider it reliable. I have no UNIX experience, but we moved our production databases to Linux nearly four years ago and that has been *MUCH* more stable for us than Windows was. In our last year on Windows, we averaged a crash per week of the database or of the O/S (and that was with a scheduled shutdown and reboot each weekend). On Linux, we had two crashes in four years. (We only do a database shutdown now about once a month and a server reboot only every two-three months.)
artradis, from another ponit of view, you may see this as opportunity to improove your skills and get more valuable knowledge. To install RAC with help of documentation and internet resources is not SUCH hard task. My frend runnig RAC on windows few years now with success. So may be good idea, to get two test windows boxes, shared storage, and start to install rac.
You never know what you can do till you try.

to setup an oracle rac environment this is a real serious job ;'
if you do not have an oracle dba with rac expierince on site do not even think about deploying it.
as for your Q is better than a fail safe env ?
yes it is better far better than win clustering:
1-2 nodes are working at the same time "cache fusuin tech makes the 2 nodes shre the same memory realm at the same time so you will utilize your resource better than ever.
2- a real fail over which is almost Transparent to the users.
but the isuue will still than you need expierince and oracle support to work with you sometimes day to day .
plus backing up such a system is not an easy job.
as you will be probably using ASM and your only option is rman.
