Do we need a computer to connect to network and set up to back up every day Please suggest

11g ,like 10g has authomatic backup scheduling from oem,no need for another server to configure backups,may want tape device if the data volium is huge

Agreed with oleggold. Oracle comes with RMAN. RMAN can be scheduled and configured in any custom manner you like.

Use the Enterprise Manager and setup the default backup and Oracle will put a nice RMAN script in place for you.
