Question

Forms6i:ERROR: Abnormal termination (Again.... ?)

Asked by: Liza_Hayati

Hi there,

I don't know what is happen to my form, i thought maybe my form was corrupted by UFO (unknown form object). I able to open and compile but failed to open canvas and run that form. Only one form have this problem. If i open the canvas, a black screen will appear and puff.. disapear..form6i will terminate with some error file. As far as i know that form does not have any error. I list down the error file for your information. I know that many developers experience this (this is my second) and i cannot find any solution to avoid this 'phenomenon'.

It is a bug? do i need a patches? or i already loss the only copy of form file (ohhh noo i dont want to rebuild that form again!) Please gimme some advice.. Thank you for reading..

Liza,

You appear to have run into a bug in Forms 6i versions 6.0.8.X and there seems to be no consensus of opinion as to the route cause.

Some fixes supplied to me that worked (and some that sadly did not) in the past are:

1) Increase the virtual memeory of your machine to at least 4 times the physical memory;
2) Load the troublesome form into Forms Developer and do a full recompile before regenerating;
3) Convert the file to text (taking a backup of the original first of course) and then convert back from text to file; --This can clear up phantom linkages;
4) If you are using any Visual Attributes in your form change the Foreground Color(sic) setting from Automatic to a specific colour.

Oracle have claimed that this bug is fixed in 6i Patchset 10 but this seems to have only solved some of the occurrences.

I hope that one of the above possible solutions works for you.

Regards

Garnet

Liza,

apologies for the atrocious spelling above, I of course meant "root" cause.

Hi
I myself also sometimes find problem with forms.There r some ways to get rid of this sort of problems.U told that u can not even open the canvas.One thing u can do that is create a new form ,dont be afraid, u will just create
ur necessary new canvases manually .Once ur new form and canvases r built then just drag down all datablocks,items,triggers from ur old form to this new
form.then manually compile all the codes again,i mean you will open pl/sql editor for all the triggers and press the compile button above so that they r compiled.Dont just run the form to get all triggers compiled automatically.
Compile all the trigger manually(This is important).Then run the form.

If u still find problems that means ur form objects and triggers r corrupted.Then what u can do is,create new form ,create some of the objects manually and drag some of the objects from the old form.This method sometimes
works.

If u find any further problems testing the above ways,please let me know
I will try to suggest u further.

regards
Mehbub
