ORACLE 8i Application to maintain ?

Hello Gurus,
I am being offered the job of Part time IT in a big company. (65 PCs..)
It's been 3 days I am going there for couple of hours to see what are the problems and talking to the IT person in charge that is to leave within 15 days or so...
the problem (for me) is that their application is under Oracle 8i.
Not only this is awfully old...but I have no idea about oracle...I am very familiar with SQL Server and SQL statments. (SQL 2000 & 2005) ...
what are your reccomendations guys ?
How hard is the learning curve from SQL to Oracle...
mind you there is little things involved in the Oracle Database.. but still...
PS. Where can I find Oracle to download (as demo ? ) is Version 9i tooooo different form 8i ?
What about the TOAD application ? is it like the SQL Server Entreprise Manager ?
