The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

ORA-00942: Table or view does not exist

Tags: does, table, view, exist
Hi all,
         Im getting this "ORA-00942: Table or view does not exist" even though i have this table in my database. The following is the situation where im getting this. I have a table by name EMP_NO in schema HR. I created a public SYNONYM by name EMP_NO. When i tried to access this table, EMP_NO in another schema PAYDEPT, then im getting this error. I have also issued " GRANT ALL ON HR.EMP_NO TO PAYDEPT" but even then im getting this error. Following are the queries that i have issued to show this relationship.

SQL> select owner, object_type from dba_objects where object_name='EMP_NO';

OWNER         OBJECT_NAME                 OBJECT_TYPE
---------------    ---------------                    ------------------
PUBLIC              EMP_NO                              SYNONYM
SYSTEM            EMP_NO                              SYNONYM
PAYDEPT          EMP_NO                              SYNONYM
HR                     EMP_NO                                TABLE

SQL> select owner, synonym_name, table_owner from dba_synonyms where table_name='EMP_NO';

OWNER       SYNONYM_NAME     TABLE_OWNER
-------                   ------------           -----------
PAYDEPT       EMP_NO                          HR

PUBLIC           EMP_NO                         HR

SYSTEM         EMP_NO                        HR

I guess it might have given this error if i use HR.EMP_NO to refer to EMP_NO table in PAYDEPT schema. But we already have the PUBLIC SYNONYM, which by default grants all access to this particular table to all schemas in the database, so, could anybody please help me to find out as what would be the issue here.

Thanks,
Harris
