Question

100% CPU Usage with User OSE$HTTP$ADMIN

Asked by: zahidrahim

I haveOracle 9i installed with PHP and Zend Core for Oracle On WinXP to develop a PHP+Oracle based application.

Every day i turn my computer ON and open my Task Manager CPU is being used from 90 to 100% Then i open Oracle Enterprise Manager Console Database-> Instance -> Session where there are so many entries of OSE$HTTP$ADMIN with InActive status if i kill one session all sessions disappear and CPU start using normally OR if i remove my network cable things becomes OK as well. i need to do on daily basis. I am worried bz tomorrow when my application and server will go live the clients will face the same slow speed issue.

plz tell me why it is happening and what is the solution.

That user is for use of the Oracle Servlet Engine.  It functions as a specialized web server accessible directly from the database... if you don't need it, which it sounds like you don't, I'd un-install it from your database installation.

This is from Metalink... I think the "How to Stop OSE Running Inside the Database" part is the only part that applies to you unless you are using the Application Server as well:

PURPOSE
-------

This article shows how to disable the Oracle Servlet Engine (OSE) from running
with Oracle 9i Application Server (9iAS 1.0.2.x) and in the Oracle 8.1.7 Dataserver.

How to Stop OSE Running with 9iAS
---------------------------------

1. Stop the Oracle HTTP Server listener

2. Edit the ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/oracle_apache.conf
Comment out the line referencing mod_ose.conf

   Example:
   #include "E:\ORACLE\iSuites\Apache\Apache\conf\mod_ose.conf"

3. Start the Oracle HTTP Server listener.

How to Stop OSE Running Inside the Database
-------------------------------------------

To completly disables OSE in the database, follow these steps:

Edit init.ora file and remove the mts_dispatchers entry that is pointing to an
admin service and port 8080 or another port number. Then, restart the database.

If this did not stop OSE, do the following:

1. Go to the jis/install directory

      $cd $ORACLE_HOME/jis/install

2. Execute the next command. Make sure you the correct values for the connection,
   username and password:

      $sess_sh -s jdbc:oracle:thin:@host:port:sid -u sys/change_on_install

You should get the following output:

      --Session Shell--
--type "help" at the command line for help message
      $

3. Execute the next commands from within the Session Shell :

      $rmendpoint admin main
      $rmendpoint admin ssl
      $rmendpoint admin mod8i
      $exit

4. After this you should not be able to get service from the port 8080

Will i be able to use the Apache installed with Oracle 9i. and you did not tell me the reason why it is creating the sessions and if there is any other solution or after uninstalling can i install it again if i needed of it.
