Dear All,
I have and old Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.0.1.5. and since yesterday it freezes when users run BO reports, it show 100% CPU used by Oracle.

Thank you MikeOM, very interesting indeed. Actually no new reports, but I have old BO reports!! and I think you are rigth, they are the ones causing the problem.
I am doing two things rigth now: a) trying to optimize the queries created by BO; b) throwing new hardware (which means migrating to w2003 64bit-O10g 64bits).
But I will follow your advise.

one the reports causing trouble is because there are two columns
Year
Month
and to filter from year_month to year_month there is a calculation year*100+month which invalidates the index, indeed.
Using function index just helps this one but affect adversely other reports because the QUERY_REWRITE_INTEGRITY parameter.
One solution seems to add a new column and index it directly.
My question, from your experience, for this new column and without modifying any application, is the only way to populate it using before trigger?

BO (Crystal Reports) does that, did you add a "new" report recently?
Run a statspack report to figure out the cause.
