Starting an Oracle Job from a Trigger

Asked by OliShim in Oracle Database, PL / SQL, Oracle 9.x

Tags: orace, job, trigger, stored procedure.

Hello,

I had read some where on the net that it is possible to start an oracle job via a trigger and have the job call a stored procedure. Here's what I want.

Trigger (ON INSERT) > Job > Stored Procedure.

I had the trigger calling the stored procedure directly but that was causing problems with the data not yet being committed on other tables. Some one suggested I call a Job instead and a delay of a few seconds (WAITFOR). This should address the timing issue.

I have my stored procedure already written. Can any one please guide me towards writing the oracle job and how to have the trigger call the job? I'm using oracle 9i. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
