The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Connecting to Oracle using external (domain) user

Hi,

I have a windoes domain user which was defined on Oracle DB to have access:  DOMAIN_X\USER_Y
DB alias = aaprod01
when i'm logined as this user (DOMAIN_X\USER_Y) on the client mechine i can connect to the oracle DB.

e.g.

C:\WINNT\system32>sqlplus /@aaprod01

SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production on Wed Aug 16 14:18:10 2006

Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.


Connected to:
Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.5.0 - Production
With the OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
JServer Release 9.2.0.5.0 - Production

SQL>

BUT when i'm logined as another user and tring to connect using sqlplus

C:\WINNT\system32>sqlplus /@aaprod01

SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production on Wed Aug 16 14:20:36 2006

ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied


Enter user-name: DOMAIN_X\USER_Y
Enter password:  <i'm entering the user windows password>
ERROR:
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error


in the user name i tryied the following:

DOMAIN_X\USER_Y  (small letters)
DOMAIN_X\USER_Y  (capital letters)
OPS$DOMAIN_X\USER_Y
"DOMAIN_X\USER_Y"
"OPS$DOMAIN_X\USER_Y"

nothing works. always the same ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

I need help please ... since i need to use this user for DTS (SQL Server) which will run without the user being loged-in ...
