a year database column
What is the best way to define a database column to store a year, without months or days? I want to store just the 4 digit year (e.g. 1998, 2001).
Should it be a data datatype or a number?
It will be updated via a forms application.

It depends what you want to do with that field. If you are going to do some complicated computations as a date on year field then you could make a date with 01 Jan for date and month. If it is simple numeric kind of computation then you can keep this field as number.
