Binding a date variable from Oracle OCI to unix

I'm performing a select command from a table in my database, using the Oracle Connection Interface (OCI).
One field in the table is "date".
I can not bind any variable to this field, not date and not string. It always returns me an error. If I'm taking the "date" field out of the select command, its all working as needed.
I'm running on solaris machine, and using OAS and the OCI library of Oracle.
All my insert commands are working fine, including the date fields.
