The system error 126 indicates that a dependancy could not be found. Traditionally, the cause of this ODBC error is that the client software (SQL*NET) is not loaded
e\odbc\odb cinst.ini\ Oracle73 Ver 2.5
However, this could also be a driver / sqlnet mismatch. THe client software version can be higher than the database version (ie: Using 8.1.6 Net8 client to connect to an Oracle 7.3.4 database)
The 8.x drivers will require a client of the matching version. This means that an 8.0.4 driver will expect to find an 8.0.4 client installation (including net 8) and the 8.1.x driver will expect to find an 8.1.x client install, etc.
Or with Oracle 7 client software including Oracle ODBC driver version 2.5.3.1.x
Did you use SMS to install?
Sometimes, sms installs sets up the ODBC registry settings incorrectly,
Example:,
hkey_local_machine\softwar
the entries are set to point to c:\winnt\system32 instead of
c:\orant\odbc250
or wherever your Oracle home resides.
Check this out, bet it will solve the problem,
sincerely,
